دفاع گرونفلد توسط استاد بزرگ معروف اتریشی بنام ارنست گرونفلد در اوایل دوران بیست سالگی او (قرن گذشته) ابداع شد. آکیبا روبنشتاین بزرگ یکی از اولین نفری بود که به سیستم G3، فیانکتو فیل G2 واکنش نشان داد. پس از آن بسیاری از سیستم ها به رد گرونفلد محاکمه شدند. بنابراین، دستور روبنشتاین یک رویکرد پوزیسیونی بسیار مهم در برابر این گشایش پویا باقی مانده است.

The Grünfeld Defence was invented by the famous Austrian Grandmaster Ernst Grünfeld in the early twenties of the last century. One of the first reactions to it came from the great Akiba Rubinstein - the g3 system, fianchettoing the bishop to g2. After that many systems were tried to refute the Grünfeld and nothing really worked. So, Rubinstein's recipe remains a very important positional approach against this dynamic opening.

چکیــــده:

Nowadays steel coupling beams are considered as efficient alternatives to reinforced concrete coupling beams, which can improve the ductility and seismic performance of the coupled shear wall systems. In this paper, the application of corrugated webs as an alternative to flat webs with stiffeners as a proposition for enhancing structural performance of such beams is investigated through detailed numerical simulations. Several models are developed based on some key geometrical parameters, viz. web-plate shape, web thickness, number of corrugations, and corrugation angle, and the structural performance of these models is evaluated via nonlinear pushover and cyclic analyses. It is shown that application of corrugated web makes it possible to achieve larger rotation capacity compared to that of commonly-used steel coupling beams. Moreover, the results of this study demonstrate that corrugated-web steel coupling beams possess appropriate energy absorption characteristics and are capable of dissipating the input energy in a quite desirable and efficient manner.

The Slovenian GM Vasja Pirc was a five time Yugoslavian champion. This speaks volumes for his playing strength but there is a more important contribution which he has made to the chess world. The defence which he explored in detail after the moves: 1.e4 d6 2.d4 Nf6 3.Nc3 g6 is named after him. There were ups and downs in the appearance of the Pirc in tournament practice. Many people considered it dubious. However, the Pirc survived and it is coming back into fashion nowadays again. The reasons for that are the flexible nature of the position and the variety of possibilities that both sides have. One should expect that the fewer options which White has the easier the defence would be. Indeed, there is logic in that, but, on the other hand, correct play by both sides should lead to a draw. Instead of this approach the Bulgarian grandmaster Dejan Bojkov offers an aggressive repertoire for the second player in this new DVD. Black risks more than usual but hopes for higher dividends in return for the risk. The original analyses on the DVD will help the reader control the risk involved.
